The Southport Public Works Department was established by the vote of the Town in October, 1979 for the purpose of combining the Road Department  with various other previously contracted work, under one Department.

The Public Works Department is responsible for Southport road maintenance, equipment maintenance, snow removal, town bridge, dock and float maintenance, as well as the maintenance of all public buildings and lands.  It should be noted that Routes 27 and 238 fall under State jurisdiction, and while our PWD maintains snow removal on these roads, other repairs and maintenance are not in their domain.
