Awarded $400,000 from the ConnectMaine grant to build municipal owned fiber optic network.
APRIL 20, 2022
Open meeting at Southport Town Hall for residents to discuss questions with Axiom, Broadband Committee, and Selectmen regarding the fiber optic network to be installed.
APRIL 13, 2022
Receive two petitions from four residents to cease work on broadband network, and to allocate funds for only those underserved by current internet providers. Legal counsel enlisted in guidance moving forward with holding a Special Town Meeting.
MARCH 30, 2022
Secured $1,500,000 line of credit from The First to pay for upfront costs of building the fiber optic network, anticipated to be paid back by subscriber fees.
MARCH 9, 2022
Awarded a $10,000 planning grant from the Island Institute.

Selectmen reviewed, with Broadband Committee members and an Island Institute representative, and voted to accept Axiom's bid.
JUNE 30, 2021
12:00pm deadline for receiving proposals. Spectrum had called during 6/16 Selectmen's Meeting in ask questions regarding RFP, however Axiom was the only ISP to submit a proposal.
JUNE 7, 2021
RFPs are sent to a list of internet service providers and contractors provided by the Island Institute. Other ISP's and contractors are encouraged to review and submit.
MAY 7, 2021
With a vote of 96 to 85, Southport residents voted in favor
of creating a Southport owned fiber optic system.
