With over 550 moorings around Southport, space for new moorings is very limited in a number of harbors. Cozy Harbor, Newagen Harbor, Pierce Cove, Townsend Gut, Deckers Cove are closed to new moorings by decision of the Harbor Advisory Committe. The waiting list for these harbors is available through the link in "Downloads" below.

UNREGISTERED MOORINGS

For the past two years the Harbor Master has identified moorings lacking proper registration with a dot of red paint (2008) or blue paint (2009). In addition, work has been completed this summer to provide Lat/Long coordinates of all moorings around the island. That data has been imported into Google Earth maps to provide a visual identification of all moorings including those without registration stickers. Anyone who reads this and who has not registered a mooring is urged to check the data book at the Town Hall to confirm the location of his mooring and then to complete the registration process. Failure to do this will lead to the loss of the mooring (as indicated in the Harbor Ordinance) as the town is planning to take action on unregistered moorings.

With the adoption of the Amended Harbor Management Ordinance any Southport Resident over 70 holding a permit for an individual (not guest or rental) mooring may request the annual fee for 1 mooring be waived. If you wish to take advantage of this click here to download the form that should be returned with your mooring involce. The form is also available at the Town Office.

Boating Tip: The USCG Auxiliary indicates that installing Fire Extinguishers in a horizontal position can prevent their chemicals from collecting and hardening in the bottom of the extinguisher, preventing it from functioning.

Replace non-refillable extinguishers every 7 years.
